The Proton Saga is the company’s entry-level sedan and competes against the Perodua Bezza in the A-segment sedan market.

Let’s take a closer look and see how much are the maintenance and insurance costs of the Proton Saga over a 5-year period.

The Proton Saga requires a mandatory oil change at the 1,000 km mark, which costs RM 121.09.

It costs RM 632.89 to service the automatic variant of the Saga at the 60,000-km/36-month mark, due to it being a major service, requiring the spark plugs, air filter, fuel filter, and automatic transmission fluid (ATF) to be replaced.

That said, at the same 60,000-km mark, owners of the manual variant of the Saga are only required to fork out RM 331.92, as the manual transmission fluid isn’t due until the 100,000-km mark.

At the 110,000-km/66-month mark, owners of the Proton Saga need to pay RM 633.85, as the timing belt needs to be replaced.

Over a period of 5 years/100,000 km, owners of the automatic variant of the Saga are required to pay RM 3,008 to service their car, while manual variants need to pay RM 2,776. Keep in mind that these prices does not include the timing belt replacement at the 110,000-km mark and optional items that the service centre offers.

In terms of insurance cost, owners of the Saga 1.3 Standard MT are required to fork out roughly RM 1,080, while the 1.3 Standard AT costs RM 1,130 to insure. The Saga 1.3 Premium AT costs RM 1,208 to insure.

Keep in mind that the prices mentioned above assumes that the driver has zero NCD, zero loading and excludes additional coverage items, such as windshield or flood coverage.
